Charlie Smyth and Newry Pantomime Players
On 21st March 2007 Charlie Smyth and some of the pantomime players presented cheques to SAHS (£5000), MS Therapy Newry (£5000), Irish Handicapped Children’s Trust (£5000) and Cancer research (£2000). SAHS would like to sincerely thank Mr Charlie Smyth and 240 Newry Pantomime Players for their wonderful help over the past years that have continued to raise wonderful funds for local charities. This wonderful amount was raised from the 2006 Christmas Pantomime, in Newry Town Hall. Mr Charlie Smyth stated:
“The Pantomime started in 1999 and has continued to be a wonderful success. Newry has been a great town for entertainment and drama. It is brilliant to be able to attract people to watch vibrant and fresh talent and for them to know that the funds raised through the productions, is also helping local charities”.

EASTER EGG HUNT
RECIEVES GREAT RESPONSE FROM LOCALS
As the sun filled the sky on Sunday 1st April, Narrow Water Castle, Warrenpoint saw over 250 children gathering for the Easter Egg Hunt in aid of Southern Area Hospice Services. The day provided many activities throughout the day for the children including a petting zoo, obstacle course, face painting and much more!! Everyone had a great day and Lisa from Fresh Fields commented on the support from the local people;
“I cant believe the great feedback we have been getting from the children and the parents throughout the day, and hopefully next year we can maybe make it just as successful and fun for the children”.
With over 1000 eggs being scattered over the two fields every child was ensured they found something, and this was guaranteed with the Easter bunny giving a helping hand when needed!
Fresh Fields would like to thank all the sponsors for their support including Costume Corner, Pet Connection and the face painters. And also to the all the parents and their families, for their great support on the day, in order to make the event such a huge success.

Quarry Row Area Community Association organise spectacular
Irish Stew Night In aid of Southern Area Hospice Services
The local group held the Irish Stew Night on Sunday 18th March 2007 in order to raise funds for the Southern Area Hospice Services. The night included a raffle and entertainment and raised a magnificent £1000. The community group would like to thank all the sponsors who donated prizes for the event and also to everyone who supported this event in order to raise this magnificent amount.

Local woman raises money in aid of
Southern Area Hospice Services
Local woman Christina (Chris) Johnston held a raffle on Tuesday 10th April 2007, in St Mary’s Hall Newcastle to raise much needed funds for Southern Area Hospice Services. Chris would like to thank everyone who donated prizes and bought tickets for this event as it helped to raise a fantastic sum of £100 to help towards providing the services at the local hospice.

EUROSPAR GO FANCY DRESS
IN AID OF SOUTHERN AREA HOSPICE SERVICES
Eurospar employees stepped out in style on Friday 16th February to raise funds for the Southern Area Hospice. The employees had various costumes ranging from the Jackson Five to a priest, and were supported by ‘Big O’ of Five FM. The day proved a great success raising a magnificent sum of £1800. The team would like to thank everyone who supported them on the day and also to Eurospar for their continued support. Oliver Quinn who is an employee with Eurospar and also a volunteer for the Hospice commented on the amount of support from the local people.

Derrybeg Community Association Carol Singers perform
In aid of Southern Area Hospice Services
The Derrybeg Community association carol singers performed a spectacular performance in the Southern Area Hospice Services on Monday 18th December. The young group donated all the proceeds to the Southern Area Hospice totalling of a fantastic £549.45 and €38.22. the group would like to thank everyone who supported them and also to everyone for their generous donations.

National Diploma in Business 1B raise vital funds for their local Hospice
Newry Institute of further and Higher Education saw national Diploma Business Class 1B organising a Christmas Raffle in aid of Southern Area Hospice Services. The raffle took place in Newry Insitute on Monday 18th December and they would like to congradulate everyone who won a prize. The class would like to thank everyone who supported them throughout this raffle and also to the sponsors who generously donated prizes.

“Strip n’ Dales” raises substantial funds for local Hospice
"Strip n’ dales" event was organised by Aidan Connell on the 1st of July in the Golf Club to help raise much needed funds for his local hospice. On 13th July Aidan Connell with family and friends presented a cheque for the amazing amount of £3155.70 and €370.30 to Denise O’Neill (Southern Area Hospice Services Community Fundraiser). Aidan would like to thank family and friends for all their wonderful support.

Local Lads run Lisburn Half Marathon to
raise funds for their local hospice
On 21st of June Barry Haughey and Cathal O’Hare participated in the Lisburn Half Marathon to help raise funds for the Southern Area Hospice Services. On 13th July 2006 Barry Haughey and Cathal O’Hare presented a cheque for £886.50 to Denise O’Neill (Southern Area Hospice Services Community Fundraiser). Ballybot Bed Push Raises £1714 For Local Hospice
The staff of the Ballybot House organised a bed push around the streets of Newry in May to raise funds for the Southern Area Hospice. The Ballybot House staff have been organising events for the past 8 years raising a substantial amount during this time. On the 5th of July Patsy Keighery, Assistant Treasurer, presented a cheque for £1714 on behalf of the Ballybot Football Club to Denise O’Neill (SAHS Community Fundraiser). Everyone at the Southern Area Hospice Service would like to thank the staff at the Ballybot House for all their support.

Barry’s London Marathon Success
raises £4,277.70 for local hospice!
Local sportsman Barry Matthews has handed over the fantastic sum of £4277.70 to Southern Area Hospice Services from his recent participation in and sponsorship for the London Marathon. Barry, who is attached to Legal Athletic Football Club, began preparing for the marathon this time last year and set himself a target of £4,000. Incredibly, it was the first time he had ever taken part in an athletic event but said:
“I would urge anyone who has ever thought about taking part in the London Marathon to seize this opportunity. It was a once in a lifetime experience for me and I really want to thank everyone who supported me by donating money to the hospice. The motivation of the crowds of people cheering us on to the finish line was amazing. The support of my family and friends has been absolutely fantastic!”
Speaking on behalf of Southern Area Hospice Services, Fiona Stephens, Corporate Fundraiser congratulated Barry and thanked him for his efforts:
“We are delighted to announce that we have secured 10 guaranteed places for the 2007 London Marathon. I would ask that anyone interested in getting a place contact the fundraising office on 028 3025 1333 for further details. By trying to enter through the public ballot system, you only have a one in five chance of getting a place. However, by becoming a member of “Team 2007” for the hospice your travel, accommodation and entry is secured”.

Local Family raise £7,271 for local Charities
The Magee Family from Mayobridge organised a fundraising night in their local club raising a marvellous amount of £3,635.85 for the Southern Area Hospice Services and £3,635.85 for the Chest Heart and Stroke Association in loving memory of their Parents Pat-Joe and Delia Magee.
The Magee Family would like to share their sincere gratitude to their extended family and the local community for their support and generous donations. The Magee Family would also like to thank those who donated prizes to be raffled on the fundraising night.

Balmoral raises £5,500 for Newry Hospice
While we are all out enjoying ourselves during the festive
season the hard working staff of all the local establishments
could only watch on but in true Cinderella style their
time has come and staff from the Balmoral attended a staff
party this week held in the Boathouse Inn, Warrenpoint.
Owner of the Balmoral, Gary Boylan, thanked the staff for
all their efforts not only at Christmas but also throughout the year.
During the night a cheque for £5,500 was presented to Southern Area Hospice Services. Gary said:
“It is only when illness hits home that we take
time to think and the inspiration for me was the untimely
death of Una Rice. I want to thank the Rice Family and
friends, the Balmoral customers and the Boylan family
and friends for all their support…. It is only
when you see and hear first hand about the wonderful
work of the hospice that you realise we must all help
others in need of support”.
