Fundraising
The fundraising department
has the momentous task of funding approximately two thirds of the running costs
of the Hospice annually, however with fantastic continuing support from our
volunteers and the local community across the Southern Health Board region in
assisting the fundraising team throughout the year, this is made possible.
Southern Area Hospice aims to improve the quality of life of people living with
cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, including MS and Motor Neurone Disease,
throughout the Southern Health Board Area, whilst supporting their families
and carers. In 2007, 337 people were admitted to the Southern Area Hospice in-patient
unit. According to research, approximately 1 in 3 people in Northern Ireland
will contract cancer at some time in their lives and 1 in 4 will die from it.
Within the SHSSB area 30 new cases of cancer are diagnosed each week.
In 2001 the Southern Area Hospice Services fundraising target was £1million
that was £115 every single hour. With continuous increasing operating
costs, we have an ambitious fundraising target for 2009 of £2 million.
This breaks down to nearly £230 an hour that needs to be funded to enable
the Southern Area Hospice Services to continue to provide specialist care to
those who need it the most.
You can help greatly by donating money or a little of your time. For example:
• Give £50 to provide 2 hours of specialist nursing care for a life
at SAHS
• Give £90 to provide a programme of complimentary therapies
• Give £130 to provide a facility of counselling services
• Give £250 to provide a medical home visit by Hospice Doctor
• Give £570 to provide 24 hours Nursing Cover for a life at Southern
Area Hospice
Southern Area Hospice Services is very grateful for the continued support and
hard work of the local community, volunteers and our sponsors.
