Our Shops
Southern Area Hospice Services
has three shops which are located in:
-
Newry
-
Banbridge
-
Dungannon
In all three shops (Newry, Banbridge and Dungannon) we sell
only good quality clothing, bric-a-brac and books. Although
we have stressed we sell only good quality clothing in our
shops, it is important to be aware that we recycle older fabric/material
items – be they in the form of blankets, sheets, curtains,
ladies, gents or children’s wear. Each shop has a dedicated team (staff and volunteers) that raise valuable funds for the Hospice.
The sucess of the shops is due to the fine quality of stock which continues to be donated. Continue reading this page to find out more information on the SAHS shops in Newry, Banbridge and Dungannon.

On 20th February 2006 the Southern Area Hospice Services
relocated its Newry Hospice Shop to 1c Monaghan Street Newry.
After nine superb years at Cornmarket, this move provides
a quantum leap in the retail access, practicability, space,
service and support that we can offer to our customers. The
new modern premises doubles the Southern Area Hospice Service’s
former capacity in the Cornmarket building and will help the
hospice to meet demand and effectively display more of the
donated clothing and bric-a-brac. The new shop’s spacious
vibrant and attractive layout and positive store environment
creates a valuable shopping experience for our customers and
enjoyable working experience for volunteers. One of the Hospice
shop volunteers, Bronagh Fearon, stated:
"The new shop is a vast
improvement to the last shop. It is much more bright, spacious
and inviting for both the customers and volunteers.”
Another volunteer, Breeda Green,
quoted:
"I have a lot of memories
from our old shop as I was a volunteer there from it first
opened nine years ago but I am glad to be moving on. The new
shop is bright and airy with more room to display clothes
and bric-a-brac making it more comfortable and an absolute
pleasure to work in.”

Our shop in Banbridge has been up and running for over five
years now and is located at ‘1 Rathfriland Street’
– (next door to Houston’s on the corner of Newry/Rathfriland
Street). The shop would not be the success it is without the
help of our very much-appreciated group of volunteers, headed
by the shop supervisor, Ann English. Members of the Banbridge
Support Group call in regularly and use the shop as a base
for flag days and other events.
As we consider our shop in Banbridge
to be cosy and atmospheric with room for good quality clothes,
it is not possible to store all the recyclable goods (worn
out items) there. Therefore if possible we would be very grateful,
if anyone with ‘waste’ for recycling, would take
it to our Newry shop in Monaghan Street as we have more space
there for storage.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO BECOME A SHOP VOLUNTEER?
Shop volunteers assist in helping
raise funds to provide vital hospice care. The shops sell
high quality second-hand clothes, accessories, books and bric-a-brac which have been donated by the public.
Serving behind the counter, pricing and sorting donations
as well as arranging displays are some of the many duties
required by the volunteers in the hospice shops.
Would like to interact more with other people? Would you like
to do something rewarding knowing your time, efforts and skills
are helping others? If you have a few spare hours a week,
and would like to gain valuable experience and learn new skills,
you can become a Hospice Volunteer. For more information contact Rosemary at (028) 3026 7711.
