The professional bra
fitting service, which is serviced by the Ulster Cancer Foundation, is available
free of charge, to any woman who has had breast surgery and is provided on an
individual and confidential basis. Women are able to call in for advice, try
on a wide range of specialist bras in all the latest styles and purchase items.
Deirdre Conlon, Care Services Manager, UCF said, “We are delighted to
be extending our bra fitting service to women in Newry and the surrounding area.
“Following breast surgery there is no reason why a woman shouldn’t
continue to wear the clothes she loves. However with any change in body image
women can experience feelings of anxiety, loss of femininity and a lack of confidence.
Those women who have used our service have said that finding underwear that
fits and feels comfortable can make all the difference in helping them regain
their confidence and celebrate their femininity.”
Southern Area Hospice will offer the service at the Donaldson Centre in a bid
to aid women in the local area. Southern Area Hospice volunteers have recently
completed a training programme to enable them to carry out the bra-fitting service
at the Donaldson Centre. .
“Special thanks to MediCare Pharmacy Group who, through a variety of fundraising
initiatives during October Breast Cancer Awareness month, have helped to fund
the regional roll out of UCF’s Bra Fitting Service. Anyone wanting to
make an appointment should contact Fiona Robinson at Southern Area Hospice on
028 3026 7711.”
