39th Hospice Dinner Dance raised £45,000
On Tuesday 28th April 2009 Liam Goss, Chairperson of Southern Area Hospice Dinner Dance Committee, together with other committee members, presented a cheque for £45,000 to Mrs Ann Cooney (Chief Executive) of the Southern Area Hospice Services.

This amazing amount was raised at the annual dinner dance and from raffle ticket sales and a fabulous auction. Bidding was fierce as the auction encouraged diners to part with their cash to help fund the vital services provided by the Hospice throughout the year. The glamorous Dinner Dance took place on Friday 27h February 2009, with 250 attendees, in the Canal Court Hotel. The evening concluded with dancing to the James Peake Xperience and was hailed as a resounding success by the Committee’s Chairperson Liam Goss. Liam stated:

“The Committee would like to thank the event’s main sponsors Hughes Bookmakers, The Quays, Newry, Bank of Ireland, Newry Democrat, Parker Green International and the many other generous sponsors. The Committee are also grateful to the Canal Court Hotel, Frank Mitchell of UTV who acted as Master of Ceremonies, Declan McChesney who conducted the auction and to all those who contributed auction and raffle prizes, those who gave of their time to ensure the event’s success and to the patrons for their continued support”.

The date for next years annual dinner dance has been set for Friday 26th February 2010 in the Canal Court Hotel and is expected to be another wonderful night with some surprises in store. It is hoped for 2010, the wider business community will include the dinner dance as one of their corporate events to show their support for the hospice and the vital role it plays in the community.
