Chaplaincy

The Chaplaincy Service offers patients, families, carers and staff the opportunity to explore their own thoughts, feelings, and spiritual hopes and fears. The Chaplain will listen to and respect people as individuals. The Chaplaincy Team liase with local Ministers and Priests, all of who visit patients in the Hospice on a regular basis. Prayer Services are available by arrangement with the Chaplain. The professional Chaplains are part of the multidisciplinary team.

The Hospice Chaplaincy Team is available to:
• Patients
• Their families
• Their carers
Their Work Reflects:
• Sensitivity to multi-faith and multicultural realities.
• Respect for our patients’ spiritual and religious preferences.
• A consciousness of the uniqueness of each individual.

The Chaplains are present for everyone, irrespective of their beliefs to:
• Listen, talk to and journey with the patients and relatives.
• Meet the spiritual and religious needs of the patient.
• Act as a liaison with the various local Ministers.
• Provide relaxation and meditation or pray with the patients if they so wish
• Participate in individual and group bereavement sessions and programmes
• Conduct funeral services.
• Contact the patient’s own Minister or Priest, if requested.
Ministers of Religion
Religious representatives of the various faiths visit on a regular basis. Planned services are provided, and others by request. For all denominations the Chaplains, following consultation with the patient, will liase with their relevant Minister, Priest or others, to arrange a personal visit.
In the Hospice there is a chapel, affording a quiet space, which is available to all denominations.
