Make a Will Month
During the month of October, we are joining with local solicitors who will write a basic Will for you, in return for a donation to Southern Area Hospice.
The suggested donation is £95 for a basic single Will, £150 for a pair of basic mirror Wills or £50 for a basic codicil to an existing Will. However, any donation will be much appreciated.
After family and loved ones have been taken care of, we would ask that you consider supporting us through a gift in your Will. There is absolutely no obligation to do so but your legacy will live on, helping us care for patients and their families for future generations.
Why should I make a Will?
It is important to make a Will. Without one, the law decides what happens to your estate. A Will gives you peace of mind that your family and friends will be protected, and you can remember the people and causes that are important to you.
How does the Make a Will Month work?
In October, we've joined with local solicitors to provide you with an incredible opportunity. You can create your Will at no cost by donating to the Hospice. Simply schedule an appointment with one of our partnering solicitors, mentioning 'Southern Area Hospice Make a Will Month'. They will then arrange your appointment for October. Instead of paying the solicitor's fees, we kindly request that you contribute the equivalent amount to support Southern Area Hospice.

What is the suggested donation to make my Will?
In return for a donation to Southern Area Hospice Services, participating solicitors will write a basic Will for you. Can I choose to leave a gift in my Will to Hospice?
Absolutely, the decision is entirely yours. If you leave a legacy gift, after ensuring the well-being of your loved ones, it would be truly amazing. Gifts in Wills play a crucial role in sustaining the future of Hospice care.
What type of gift can I leave?
There are several ways that you can leave a gift in your Will:
- A percentage of the residue of your estate (residuary gift), after providing for loved ones and covering administrative expenses.
- A fixed sum of money known as a pecuniary gift.
- A specific gift is an item of value such as a piece of jewellery, shares or property.
Remember, legacies to charities are tax-free so leaving a gift to Hospice can help reduce the tax payable on your estate.
How do I change or add to an existing Will?
If you want to make a change or an addition to an existing Will, you can do this quite easily with a codicil. However, it is important to speak to a solicitor to make sure you don't unintentionally disrupt any other provisions within your Will.
